Controversial Sexuality Class at Northwestern Cancelled

Remember J. Michael Bailey?  He's the Northwestern professor that was widely criticized for hosting a demonstration of a woman committing sexual acts for his Human Sexuality class in February, 2011.

Students, administrators and community members were outraged.  Dr. Bailey's response?  "Sticks and stones may break your bones, but watching naked people on stage doing pleasurable things will never hurt you."

Now, Bailey's Human Sexuality course has been cancelled.

According to Psychology Department Chair Dan McAdams, the decision was made by either the President or Provost at NU.  McAdams then referred to the situation as, "a pretty extraodinary case."Although the course was cancelled, Professor Bailey has received no other sort of reprimand from the university as of yet.  He will continue to teach there this fall - including a course titled, "Dangerous Ideas".

An additional ethics complaint has been filed with the American Psychological Association (APA) by Robin Mathy, a psychologist and human sexuality expert.  "The APA can't just tolerate someone who engages in this prurient behavior," said Mathy.

Is your college or university promoting an overtly sexual agenda through "sex week" events, sexuality courses or even freshman orientation?  Tell your Regional Field Coordinator about it and fight back on your campus!

I wouldn't mind an "overtly sexual agenda" from a university if the agenda involved chastity, marriage, and true love.
